Our Aim

REVOLUTION is an international socialist youth organization. Our aim is the revolutionary overthrow of the capitalist minority class, the establishment of the rule of the working-class majority through democratic workers’ councils, the abolition of the capitalist system of exploitation, and the construction of a classless, communist society.

Our Tradition

REVOLUTION stands in the tradition of 150 years of struggle for communism.

We stand in the tradition of Karl Marx and Frederick Engels, who declared war on capitalism internationally, showed how the system is doomed to crisis and collapse, and how communism is a necessary stage of human development.

We stand in the tradition of Rosa Luxemburg, who proved that it was impossible to reform capitalism out of existence through peaceful, electoral  means.  On the contrary, it must be overthrown in a mass working-class revolution.

We stand in the tradition of V.I. Lenin, who proved that the highest level of organization is necessary if the working class is to overthrow the capitalist state and who built the Bolshevik Party – which led the working class to power in the Russian Revolution of 1917.

We stand in the tradition of Leon Trotsky, who fought against the betrayal of the October Revolution by Stalin and his clique, opposed the re-emergence in the USSR of bureaucracy, totalitarian dictatorship, privilege, nationalism, and upheld the program of the world socialist revolution.

Our Role

REVOLUTION is an organizationally independent youth movement. The oppression of young people in capitalist society makes it necessary for the revolutionary youth to have a movement of their own which is not under the control of any other party.

REVOLUTION has its own policies, its own democracy, its own rules, and its own publications. REVOLUTION elects its own officers and makes its own decisions.
Nevertheless, the youth on our own will not be able to overthrow the capitalist system. For that, a united action of the mass of the working class is essential. To that end, REVOLUTION takes its place as part of the working-class movement. We support every movement of the working class and oppressed against the capitalists and their agents. We support the building of a new revolutionary political party of the working class.

Our Members

REVOLUTION members are encouraged to be active within our organization, which includes helping out on stalls, leafleting, selling and distributing REVOLUTION publications, making regular contributions to REVOLUTION funds – including subscription fees where appropriate – and campaigns for the policies of the organization.

Members are encouraged to attend meetings of local groups as regularly as possible and to carry out actions agreed by their local group or the national organization.

Our Democracy

REVOLUTION is a democratic organization.  We decide our policies and actions by a simple vote.

All members have the right to take part in voting at branches or at the national conference, to make proposals, and to speak. All members will also have the right to be included on the national e-list and have access to the members-only section of the website, providing they agree to abide by any guidelines set out for their use by the National Council.

Our Discipline

REVOLUTION aims to achieve a high level of organization. Without discipline, it will be impossible to overthrow the capitalist state – which is highly organized.

Our publications and actions must accurately represent the agreed policies of the organization. Individual members may write articles for our publications disagreeing with the majority views of the organization. Members, however, should not disrupt the unity of agreed actions.

REVOLUTION members in serious breach of discipline, or who consistently obstruct the building of the organization, can be expelled by their local group or branch. In such circumstances, the expelled member will have the right to appeal to the National Council, who will then make the final decision by democratic vote.

Our Conference

The highest decision-making body is the REVOLUTION conference. Each conference will take place once a year where possible but no more than 15 months after the last.

All members may attend the conference.

A conference can be called at any time on no less than 2 months notice if over a third of the members of REVOLUTION want it. All conference decisions are made by a majority vote. Conference decisions are binding on the organization as a whole.

Our National Council

The conference will elect a council with responsibility for coordinating the organization nationally between conferences. The council should meet at least every two months. All members will be notified of council meetings in advance, will have the right to suggest items for its agenda, to attend the council meetings, and to speak. Minutes of decisions and a summary of debates will be distributed to all members.

The conference may elect any member to the council. The National Council should be balanced in terms of race, gender, and sexuality. Travel money should be made available to the National Council in order to allow poorer members to attend. They will be subject to recall at any time. Like all council members, their position will be up for election at the next conference.

If a member of the council stands down, the council can co-opt a member as a replacement until the next conference.

The council may decide to distribute certain responsibilities to individual members to be carried out between council meetings, including the establishment of an editorial collective for REVOLUTION publications and signatories for REVOLUTION bank accounts. Any member given such responsibilities must be strictly accountable to the membership.

Council decisions are made on behalf of the organization as a whole. They may be altered at a subsequent meeting of the council or a conference.

Local Groups

All REVOLUTION members should take part in a local group if possible. Local groups may be based in a town, district of a town, an estate, at a school, college, prison, young offenders’ institution, or workplace.  A local group of three or more people is considered a branch.

Individual members who have no local group in their area should attempt to set up a new group with the assistance of the movement as a whole, while selling REVOLUTION publications, attending events in other areas when possible, and paying regular contributions to the movement. Local groups and branches decide on their own activity by majority vote. All branches will organize sales and distribution of REVOLUTION publications. They should elect a coordinator to make sure activities are going ahead, that people know the details, and that the national organization is informed of local activities.

Oppressed Groups

Members who face oppression or discrimination in society because of their race, nationality, sex, sexuality, or disability, have the right to organize to confront any sign of discrimination within the movement. REVOLUTION guarantees the right of such members to organize special caucus meetings to identify and challenge racism, national chauvinism, sexism, homophobia, or reactionary attitudes to disabled people.
REVOLUTION will ensure at local and national events and meetings there is access for disabled people.

World Revolution

REVOLUTION is an internationalist movement. We believe that just as capitalism is an international system, so the struggle for socialism must be carried out internationally. We fight all signs of nationalism and chauvinism. REVOLUTION is committed to the struggle to build an international revolutionary youth movement and an international revolutionary working-class party. We aim for the highest possible level of international unity. REVOLUTION (US) will coordinate closely with other sections in REVOLUTION.
Members will be encouraged to participate in international mobilizations and international camps attended or organized by REVOLUTION

The National Conference shall elect an individual(s) and alternates to represent REVOLUTION (US) at the International Delegates Conference based on said group’s size proportionality to the organization as a whole.  These representatives are subject to recall at any time.
